ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

1. POLICY STATEMENT

Norton Athletic Football Club recognises its responsibility to minimise environmental impact and promote sustainable practices across all areas of the Club.

As a community sports organisation, we aim to balance sporting success with responsible environmental stewardship.

 

2. PURPOSE

The objectives of this policy are to:

  • Reduce environmental impact.

  • Encourage sustainable practices.

  • Promote environmental awareness.

  • Improve resource efficiency.

  • Protect the local environment surrounding The Highfield.

 

3. COMMITMENT

The Club commits to:

  • Reducing waste.

  • Encouraging recycling.

  • Conserving energy.

  • Conserving water.

  • Supporting biodiversity where possible.

  • Minimising unnecessary pollution.

 

4. WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Club will seek to:

  • Provide recycling facilities.

  • Reduce single-use plastics.

  • Recycle paper, cardboard and packaging.

  • Encourage responsible disposal of waste.

Volunteers, players and visitors are encouraged to support recycling initiatives.

 

5. ENERGY USE

The Club aims to:

  • Reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

  • Switch off equipment when not in use.

  • Use energy-efficient lighting where possible.

  • Consider renewable energy opportunities in future developments.

 

6. WATER MANAGEMENT

The Club will seek to:

  • Reduce unnecessary water usage.

  • Maintain plumbing efficiently.

  • Monitor water consumption where practical.

 

7. PROCUREMENT

Where practical, the Club will seek to purchase:

  • Sustainable products.

  • Recyclable materials.

  • Durable equipment with longer life cycles.

Environmental considerations will form part of purchasing decisions where reasonable.

 

8. FACILITY DEVELOPMENT

Future development projects including:

  • Clubhouse improvements

  • Car park improvements

  • Floodlighting

  • 3G facilities

  • Additional infrastructure

shall seek to consider environmental impacts during planning and delivery.

 

9. TRANSPORT

The Club encourages:

  • Car sharing where practical.

  • Walking and cycling to matches where feasible.

  • Efficient travel planning for away fixtures.

Future initiatives may include sustainable transport options.

 

10. BIODIVERSITY

The Club recognises the importance of protecting local wildlife and habitats.

Where practical, the Club will seek to:

  • Protect existing hedgerows.

  • Maintain green spaces responsibly.

  • Encourage biodiversity around Club facilities.

 

11. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Club will seek opportunities to:

  • Raise environmental awareness.

  • Support local environmental initiatives.

  • Encourage community participation in sustainability projects.

 

12. RESPONSIBILITIES

All members, volunteers, players and visitors are encouraged to support the Club’s environmental objectives.

Environmental responsibility is a shared commitment.

 

13. REVIEW

This policy shall be reviewed annually.
